As you read this, I’m sitting on the first of FOUR airplanes that will take me from my sleepy little corner of Richmond, VA all the way across the world to Dunedin, New Zealand.
My husband Dan and I are heading to the other side of the globe to see my Dad for his birthday – and also to take some much needed time away, just the two of us.
I’ll be honest: as much as this trip is a gift, I’ve also been anxious.

As I’ve been managing myself and my feelings about this trip, I’ve been journaling a lot. Writing about my thoughts, worries, wishes and feelings. Asking myself questions and being open to the answers that come.
Journaling has the power to help us know ourselves better.
It creates a safe, open space for us to say the things we think and feel – without judgment or criticism.
What I’ve learned as a coach – not to mention as a human being going through my own life transitions – is that every meaningful life change begins with honest reflection.
Asking and answering questions like:
Who am I today, in this season of my life?
What matters to me?
What are my values, priorities and boundaries?
What are my wishes, my dreams and my hopes for myself, and the world?
What’s next? And how can I begin to create it?
