Friday Finds – December 8, 2017
Weekends are a great time to clear space and make room for new inspirations and insights to emerge. To spark your own exploration this weekend, here’s what we’ve enjoyed this week:
WHAT WE’RE READING: Why You Should Practice Every Day for Two Years Before You Expect to Succeed
WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: Confidence is the successful repetition of any endeavor.
WHAT WE’RE PLAYING WITH: Turning mindless holiday party chatter into eye-opening learning.
WHAT WE’RE CURIOUS ABOUT: Could improv really make us better at our jobs?
THIS WEEK’S MANTRA: “You are exactly where you need to be”
A moment of found inspiration, this week’s mantra literally showed up on a billboard on the side of the road in San Diego, CA. I was immediately drawn to it months ago when I saw it, and its message still speaks to me today.
In wayfinding we often think about being on a journey to find our passion and our purpose. While the journey metaphor makes sense, this week I’m wondering if we’re doing ourselves a disservice when we assume there’s one and only one destination point that we're trying to reach. If the grass is always greener at the end of that road, what do we do with the plot of lifeless, brown hay we’re currently standing on?
My answer? Grab hold of the thread of inspiration, practice and patience that’s dangling at your fingertips and use it to slowly, slowly pull yourself into greener pastures. It’s no quick fix, but I think it’ll not only preserve your sanity, but make the journey worth the trip, too.
Bon voyage,
