Friday Finds – December 1, 2017
Weekends are a great time to clear space and make room for new inspirations and insights to emerge. To spark your own exploration this weekend, here’s what we’ve enjoyed this week:
WHAT WE’RE READING: Thoughtful tips and inspiring quotes to fine-tune our gratitude practice.
WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO: A reminder that service to others is one of the best ways to help ourselves.
WHAT WE’RE PLAYING WITH: Finding moments for self-compassion breaks.
WHAT WE’RE CURIOUS ABOUT: How the lens of ‘rare and unique’ can help us make a decision.
THIS WEEK’S MANTRA: Get on the bus. You can always change your seat later.
This week’s mantra comes from the wisest of all – my mom, Janice. Over the years she has employed this ‘Mom-ism’ to inspire me to make decisions, consider a thoughtful risk, or try something new. While this advice has served me well over the years, I find that I keep coming back to it especially lately – at a time when I’m feeling called to make certain decisions (or avoid others) but I’m not sure how to start. Perhaps it has something to do with the time of year. Are you feeling called to make some big or new decisions in 2018, too?
When it comes to decision making, some of my favorite inspiration came this week from an interview with Scott Belsky, co-founder of Behance. In it, Scott explains that the only bad decisions are the ones we execute ‘shyly’ – those choices we make but either don’t completely commit to or follow through on. He continues:
“When we make a decision, whether it’s good or bad, at least it’s motion. That motion is what moves us forward. Ironically, whether that motion is in the right or wrong direction, at least it’s giving us some better visibility of the terrain around us and helping us learn.”
Read more of my thoughts this week on decision making – and let me know how you’re planning to get on the bus in the coming weeks!
